Hello

I have 2 ForEach Loop containers. The first checks files for zero length, the second looks at an archive folder to check that none of the files has already been archived.

The fist loop runs and the second falls over with the error: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Any ideas? Many thanks...

Nice one. I never knew about that. Personally I usually want time precision as well so I have to settle for some fancy string manipulation...but this is cool.

Frustrated isn't the word. I would go absolutely ballistic if someone sent me files like that. Its stupid mistakes like that that can manifest themselves in so many different ways.

Very Good point!  I learned this the hard way.

I also believe there is a bug that prevents SSIS from importing any string field larger than 256 characters from a flat file.  Either it’s a bug (in SQL 2005) or I’m still doing something wrong.  No warning or error, because all the input/output fields in the package are large enough.  However, the data is still truncated when I look at the table.

What's the fix exactly?

This technique (i.e. using dtutil.exe) is useful but still doesn't solve the problem of tasks/containers in packages created from the same template having the same IDs.

By the way, how about producing that fix as a Powershell cmdlet?

Hey Brian, long time no talk.

Was mucking around with the SSIS template idea you had, got a workaround /alternative that actually populates the unique ID, saves you having to reset them at all.   It does require you to perform an extra step in creating the template (create a *.vstemplate file also) but once you do that, it's available in the teplates list and fires up with a spankin new id every time.

PM me over on SSC.com and i'll shoot the sample files thru.

I've read that while the read rates are quite high, the writes take a while. Is this what you are finding?

I took the Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance exam today. It wasn't too bad except for the fact that the test crashed TWICE on me. After the first crash it took the test center an hour to get me back on a system to continue the test (had to start over after 10 questions) and crashed again at end of the test after the 70th question. Brian, thanks again for posting this blog and spreading the word about this beta program. Hopefully I passed (results come 8 weeks after beta period ends).

Need some guidance

Could you shed some light on what type of questions were asked, number of questions etc.

For the preparation I am using the MCTS SQL Server 2005 BI Training Kit, would that be appropriate?

SQL 2008 Designer Behavior

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to divulge specifics but I used a combination of the MCTS SQL Server 2005 training kit materials and reading the 2008 RC0 Books Online, with a focus on new features for 2008. Studying those two things should get you by without a problem.
