Did you ever notice strange behavior with the toggle items when creating a report
in Reporting Services? By strange behavior I mean the tree-view plusses will collapse
the tree-view when it should be expanding it and the minuses will expand the selection
when it should be collapsing?
This drove me crazy until I figured out why it was acting this way. There are two places
to set this property in Reporting Services. One is in the property pane in the lower right
hand corner of the IDE and the other is in the properties of the container you are using
such as a Table control. In the table control for example, if you right click on the table
and select properties, and in the Visibility tab, you have the option to set the visibility
and toggle-item there or even in the properties of a group.
As it turns out, I had the visibility and toggle-item properties set in both of those places
at the same time. Why should this matter? After all, conventional thinking would assume
that if they are set in both places you can be double sure it will work right? Well, with SSRS
not so much. If you clear out the properties of one of those locations, the functionality
will magically start working as intended!
This issue and many more of these topics will be covered
in my new Reporting Services class.
Check it out, this class is awesome!
