High Availability is a broad term used (and sometimes misused) throughout on and offline discussions about uptime and application availability. In particular, when we say "high availability" we mean a database accessible as close to 24/7 as possible via redundancies and fault-tolerance within the systems housing that data. For the DBA, it is critical to understand this topic and the technological underpinnings of the High Availability options Microsoft provides within SQL Server.
