Navigating Through Your Metadata - Preparing for the GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) deadline is 2 months away. If you haven't educated yourself or begun to prepare your organization for compliance, there’s no time to waste. In case you live under a rock and don’t know what GDPR is, GDPR is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy laws for all individuals within the European Union (EU). Some things to know:

• Data Protection Officer (DPO) – This should be a designated role in your organization. The DPO is responsible for monitoring compliance with GDPR and making sure personal data is safe and secure.
• Compliance – Data must be protected from unauthorized access, illegal processing and loss.
• Data Breaches – GDPR contains rights to personal data, as well as to duties and responsibilities to your organization. Attacks to systems or personal data breaches must be made aware to supervisors within 72 hours.
• Non-compliance = major financial consequences. Penalties can range from 2% - 4% of the total worldwide annual turnover, yet not less than 10-20 million Euro.
