#### Introduction

In this exciting series, [Devin Knight](https://pragmaticworks.com/instructors/devin-knight) is going to walk you through the integration of HubSpot with Power Automate. If you're not already familiar with HubSpot, don't worry; it's a widely used tool in marketing and sales, not a Microsoft product. The reason behind exploring this integration is that many organizations work with multiple applications, and HubSpot and Power Automate can be a powerful combination.

In this first part, we'll focus on setting up a private app within HubSpot, a crucial step in securing access to HubSpot's API. Devin will also introduce you to the HubSpot API documentation, which is quite well-documented and helpful for your integration journey.

#### Why HubSpot and Power Automate?

- Organizations often use a mix of tools, and integrating them is crucial.
- Power Automate is the integration tool of choice for this series.

#### Premium License Required

- Please note that for some of the features demonstrated, you'll need a Power Automate premium license. This license is essential to tap into HubSpot's API.

#### Getting Started with HubSpot

- The journey begins in HubSpot. Log into your HubSpot instance. Devin uses Pragmatic Works for this demonstration.
- Click on the gear icon in the top right corner to access settings.
- Navigate to Integrations > Private Apps.

#### Creating a Private App

- Private apps provide secure access to HubSpot's API.
- Click on "Create a private app."
- Give your app a name and a description.
- Choose the scope of access for your private app, depending on your needs. For this demonstration, Devin focuses on CRM data.
- Access to CRM data can include contacts, deals, companies, and more.
- Once you've selected your desired access, hit "Create app."
- An access token is generated; remember to keep it secure.

#### Exploring HubSpot API Documentation

- HubSpot's API documentation is impressive and user-friendly.
- It's an essential resource for understanding how to interact with HubSpot's data.
- The API is RESTful, meaning you can perform actions like GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE.
- To start exploring a specific area, use the search bar; Devin searches for "contacts."

#### Endpoints for Interaction

- Endpoints in the API documentation is your go-to place to test and perform actions.
- Devin demonstrates how to create a new contact using an endpoint.
- Endpoints are practical for hands-on learning and testing.
- By using endpoints, you can see how the integration works in real-time.

In this first part of the series, Devin has laid the foundation for integrating HubSpot and Power Automate. You've learned how to create a private app in HubSpot to securely access their API, and you've been introduced to the HubSpot API documentation, a valuable resource for your integration journey. Stay tuned for the subsequent videos in this series, where we'll dive deeper into the integration process.
