In this course, you will learn how to develop a canvas app from the ground up. The application you build will be used for handling park inspections. This app framework could be used for any kind of inspection process.
In this course, learn how to develop a canvas app from the ground up. The application you build will be used for handling park inspections. This app framework could be used for any kind of inspection process.
You will learn the fundamentals of app building from design, viewing data, creating data, updating data, and deleting data. The major building blocks of all canvas app development are covered and will give you great knowledge to build your own applications.
The completed application we build is available in our last module for you to download and import into your Power Apps environment.

Module 01 - Introduction
In this module, Andrew Perez guides students through building a Park Inspection App that expands on foundational app development skills. The course focuses on creating a user-friendly interface to interact with a SQL Server database containing park and inspection data, demonstrating key concepts like one-to-many relationships and CRUD operations. By the end, learners will have developed a fully functional app that allows users to create, read, update, and delete inspection records efficiently.
Module 02 - Setup
In this module, Andrew Perez guides students through setting up a proper development environment in the Power Apps maker portal, emphasizing the importance of using a developer environment for full functionality. He explains how to identify or create a suitable environment using the Power Apps developer plan and details the process of connecting to a cloud SQL Server database, which will serve as the data source for the application. By the end of this module, students will have the necessary environment and data connection configured to begin building their Power Platform projects.
Module 03 - App Creation
In this module, Andrew guides you through setting up a new Canvas app within your solution folder, focusing on choosing the app format and naming it appropriately. He explains essential design studio settings, including disabling autosave to prevent unwanted changes and enabling modern controls for access to the latest Power Apps features. Finally, Andrew demonstrates how to connect your app to specific SQL Server tables, preparing you to begin designing and building your application in the upcoming modules.
Module 04 - Finishing Your App
In this module, Andrew Perez guides students through building a dynamic welcome dashboard in Power Apps, focusing on creating personalized welcome messages and displaying detailed park information using referential formulas. The lesson emphasizes practical UI design techniques, such as text concatenation, formatting, and inserting image controls to enhance user experience. By the end, learners will confidently implement data reading functionalities, setting the foundation for upcoming modules on data creation and management.
Module 05 - Solution Export
In this module, Andrew guides students through the process of exporting and importing solutions to move their Power Platform projects between different environments. He explains the importance of publishing versions to ensure the live app reflects the latest changes and demonstrates how to manage solution versions and dependencies effectively. By the end, learners will confidently package their solutions as managed or unmanaged files and import them into new environments, completing the full application lifecycle.
Andrew Perez graduated from the University of North Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Transportation and Logistics. He has been working in leadership and management positions since the age of 19, which developed in him a passion for training and helping others to grow. He now puts these skills to work with Pragmatic Works, helping customers bolster their professional skillsets as many mentors have aided him.
