I have been speaking a lot over the past year. Much more than I have spoken in years past. I’ve moving from town to town like a ninja, speaking at SQLSaturdays. SQLSaturdays are free training events that are held internationally, where speakers like myself and others, come to town and speak on a multitude of subjects relating to SQL Server. On February 28th, 2015, I will be speaking at SQLSaturday #370 in Phoenix, AZ.
Some of my colleagues at Pragmatic Works will be there as well. They will be hosting Friday precon sessions in addition to their sessions on Saturday.Precon sessions are sometimes offered at SQLSaturdays. They are full day of seminars on a specific subject and are offered on a pay per seat basis. SQLSaturday #370 in Phoenix is offering two precons on Friday.
Adam Jorgensen (@wadamj) will be hosting a precon on Friday titled Architecting a Modern Data Warehouse. Adam has a vast amount of knowledge and experience in Data Warehousing. Adam is also presenting On-Demand Compute and Analytics with PowerShell Hadoop and Azure on Saturday. This session is a great introductory session on how to integrate HDinsight in to your Business Intelligence toolbox.
Brad Ball (@sqlballs) will be hosting the other precon on Friday titled SQL Internals Deep Dive. Brad is one of the best people to present internals because the only thing that surpasses his knowledge of internals is his excitement for the subject. On Saturday, Brad will be presenting his session on BI DBA Performance Tuning. Brad’s session does a great job on showing how a DW is different from an OLTP system.
The very intelligent and always fun Jason Horner (@jasonhorner) will also be in town. His session titled Dimensional Modeling Design Patterns: Beyond Basics, is a deep dive session on data modeling that covers the different kinds of fact tables, dimension tables and setting up hierarchies that simplify reporting.
Alan Faulkner, who is from the Phoenix area, will also be speaking. His session covers SSAS Multidimensional vs. Tabular. I’m interested to hear what Alan’s take is on the better modes in different situations.
Ginger Grant (@desertislesql), who is one of the organizers of the event, will be presenting her session Predicting the Future with Machine Learning. In her session, Ginger gives you an introductory look in to the predictive analytics field and Microsoft’s cloud platform to address this field called Azure ML.
I also will be presenting a new session of mine, Data Factory: Data Integration in the Cloud. This session is designed to introduce you to the new Azure Platform Data Factory. I’ll also demo a couple different scenarios where you might deploy Data Factory. While Data Factory is still only in public preview and is continuing to be developed, this service will allow companies to be able to move data in the cloud with SSIS in an IaaS VM.
If you are going to be in the Phoenix area on February 28th, come out and take advantage of some free SQL learning from some of the best speakers around. I hope to see you there.
Tweet us and let us know what session you are looking forward to seeing at #SQLSatPhoenix!
