Prepare confidently for the PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst exam with this focused review course led by Angelica Choo Quan. Through practical exercises and scenario-based challenges, you’ll reinforce the skills measured on the exam—from connecting and transforming data to modeling, DAX, reporting, and governance. This course is best suited for learners who already have Power BI fundamentals and want a structured path to sharpen exam readiness and apply best practices in real-world reporting.
Course Outline ( Free Preview)
Module 01 - Introduction
Start here to understand how this PL-300 review course is organized and what success looks like. You’ll get an exam-focused overview of the skills measured and how the course topics align to those objectives. Angelica Choo Quan also outlines a practical approach for using the modules as a structured review path.
Module 02 - Get or Connect to Data
Build confidence in the first step of any Power BI project: connecting to the right data. This module reviews how to connect to common sources or shared semantic models, adjust credentials and privacy settings, and decide between Import and DirectQuery. You’ll also learn how parameters support maintainable, flexible connections.
Module 03 - Profile and Clean the Data23 min.
Before transforming data, it’s critical to understand what you’re working with. In this module, you’ll use profiling tools to evaluate column properties and data statistics, then address inconsistencies, nulls, and quality issues. You’ll also review how to diagnose and resolve common import errors.
Module 04 - Transform and Load the Data93 min.
Turn raw data into analysis-ready tables using essential Power Query techniques. You’ll review data types, column transformations, grouping/aggregation, and reshaping patterns like pivoting and unpivoting. The module also covers working with semi-structured data, building fact and dimension tables, merging and appending queries, creating relationship keys, and configuring load behavior.
Module 05 - Design and Implement a Data Model66 min.
A strong model makes reporting easier, faster, and more accurate. This module covers configuring table/column properties, implementing role-playing dimensions, and selecting relationship cardinality and cross-filter direction. You’ll also create a common date table and revisit where calculated columns and calculated tables fit into model design.
Module 06 - Create Model Calculations Using DAX76 min.
Bring your model to life with measures and reusable calculation patterns. You’ll build core aggregation measures, apply CALCULATE to control filter context, and implement time intelligence. The module also reviews basic statistical functions, semi-additive measures, quick measures, calculated tables/columns, and the role of calculation groups.
Module 07 - Optimize Model Performance5 min.
When reports slow down, knowing where to look matters. This module explores performance improvements such as removing unnecessary columns/rows and reducing granularity where appropriate. You’ll also use Performance Analyzer and DAX query view to identify and address expensive visuals, relationships, and measures.
Module 08 - Create Reports58 min.
Translate your model into clear, effective report experiences. This module reviews selecting the right visuals, formatting and configuration, and applying themes for consistency. You’ll also cover slicing and filtering, conditional formatting, page setup, when to use paginated reports, and visual calculations using DAX.
Module 09 - Enhance Reports for Usability and Storytelling76 min.
Take reports from “functional” to “easy to navigate and explain.” You’ll configure bookmarks, tooltips, interactions, navigation, and drillthrough to guide users through insights. The module also includes sync slicers, selection pane organization, export settings, mobile design, personalized visuals, accessibility considerations, and automatic page refresh.
Module 10 - Identify Patterns and Trends49 min.
Go beyond descriptive reporting to surface insights and signals in your data. This module covers Analyze capabilities, grouping/binning/clustering, and AI visuals that support exploration. You’ll also review reference lines, error bars, forecasting, and techniques for spotting outliers and anomalies.
Module 11 - Create and Manage Workspaces and Assets70 min.
Learn how Power BI content is organized and delivered in the Service. This module covers creating/configuring workspaces, publishing and updating items, and building dashboards. You’ll also review workspace apps, distribution options, subscriptions and alerts, content promotion/certification, gateway requirements, and scheduled refresh for semantic models.
Module 12 - Secure and Govern Power BI Items24 min.
Security and governance are essential for trustworthy reporting at scale. This module reviews workspace roles, item access, and semantic model permissions. You’ll also implement row-level security (including group membership) and apply sensitivity labels to support responsible data handling.
