An environment in Dynamics 365 is a container for your data, apps, and automations. To create a new environment:
- Click on the New button under the Environments tab.
- Name your environment (e.g., “D365 YouTube”).
- Select your region—ideally, one close to your users for better performance.
- Choose whether to receive early feature updates.
- Pick the environment type: Sandbox for development/testing and Production for live environments.
- Ensure you turn on Dataverse, then click Next.
Step 3: Enable Dynamics 365 Apps
When setting up the environment, you need to enable the Dynamics 365 apps to use them:
- Toggle the Enable Dynamics 365 apps switch to precondition the database for Dynamics 365.
- Optionally, choose specific apps like Sales Enterprise or Customer Service from the list of licensed apps.
- Click Save, and the environment will be ready in about 5 minutes.
Step 4: Add Additional Apps to an Existing Environment
If you forget to add an app during setup, you can still install it later:
- Select the existing environment in the admin center.
- Go to Dynamics 365 Apps and click Install App.
- Find and install the desired Dynamics app from the list.
Step 5: Check for Updates and Rename the URL
Once your environment is ready:
- Go to your environment and click Edit to rename the URL for easier access.
- Check for available updates and apply them immediately to avoid slowdowns later.
Step 6: Configure the Environment
After the environment setup is complete:
- Navigate to your installed applications (e.g., Sales Hub) from Make.PowerApps.com.
- Access sample data by selecting Advanced Settings > System > Data Management, then install the sample data for testing.
Step 7: Customize Dynamics 365
Once the environment is ready, you can start configuring and customizing Dynamics 365 to suit your needs. Head over to App Settings within your application and set up core configurations like sales territories and organizational charts. From there, you can customize forms and views as needed.
