Course Description

Starting out as a DBA is rough. Nobody takes the time to show you the ropes – everybody wants ‘advanced’ this, ‘internals’ that, or deep dive level 1000! All that advanced stuff is great, but you need to build a foundation. This course gives a step-by-step overview of SQL Server and will review installing SQL Server and its various services, post configuration, setting up maintenance plans, reviewing essential concepts surrounding what backups should be selected, and basic SQL Server and Active Directory Security.

  • Microsoft Windows 2008 / 2008R2 / 2012 / 2012 R2 server operating system
  • 2 GHz or faster CPU
  • 4 GB of available RAM (recommended 8 GB)
  • 60 GB of free hard drive space
  • SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Developer Edition, Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition including the client tools and Books Online
  • AdventureWorks2012 or AdventureWorks2014 and AdventureWorksDW2012 or AdventureWorksDW2014 databases installed on the instance. These sample databases can be found here.

What to Know Before Class

This class assumes that you have no prior understanding of SQL Server fundamentals at all, and will hopefully, provide those to you.
